“Me and Orson Welles”
*** 1/2 | “Me and Orson Welles” is a coming-of-age comedy built around the “Me,” a star-struck theater lover winningly played by Zac Efron. But it’s a movie dominated by Orson Welles. Efron is Richard, a would-be thespian going to high school in the greater New York of the 1930s. He stumbles into the Great Orson as the actor is on his way to rehearse his legendary production of “Julius Caesar.” PG-13. 1 hour, 50 minutes. Roger Moore, Orlando Sentinel (Sept. 14)
“The Ghost Writer”
**** | “A thriller wrapped around a roman à clef about contemporary politics. It’s the kind of impeccable adult entertainment, able to alternate edge-of-your-seat episodes with bleakly comic moments. a former British prime minister and intentional dead ringer for Tony Blair named Adam Lang (Pierce Brosnan) and the ghost writer (Ewan McGregor) hired to pump up his memoirs. Both actors do excellent work, as do co-stars Kim Cattrall and Olivia Williams. PG-13. 2 hours, 8 minutes. Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times
