FORT COLLINS — Colorado State outside linebacker Mychal Sisson didn’t dress Wednesday for the second straight day, sitting out practice with a sore knee.
CSU coach Steve Fairchild listed the junior as “day to day.”
Some coaches have a rule that if a player misses both Tuesday and Wednesday, the key practice days of the week, he will not play Saturday. If Sisson is physically able to play, Fairchild said “he will play” when the Rams face Nevada on Saturday.
Despite missing part of last Saturday’s 24-3 loss to CU with leg cramps, Sisson still finished second among CSU tacklers with eight. He was credited with a quarterback hurry and a pass breakup.
James Skelton, a 6-foot-2, 225-pound third-year sophomore from Chatfield High School, practiced with the first unit in Sisson’s place.
Running game update.
Raymond Carter will draw his second straight start at running back Saturday, despite struggling in his CSU debut along with the rest of the running game.
Fairchild said the ineffectiveness of the running game (49 net yards against the Buffs) “was not only correctible, it’s easily correctable.”
He reiterated the redshirt freshman Chris Nwoke will also get a look. Also, Leonard Mason, who missed all of preseason camp with a hamstring, might be nearing game shape.
New walk-on.
CSU added an unusual walk-on freshman this week. Adam Klingenburg, a 22-year-old who graduated from Evergreen in 2006, postponed college to enlist in the Marines. He had two tours of duty in Iraq.
At 6-4, 270 pounds, he stands out on the scout team defensive line. “He looks like he has a chance to be a pretty good football player,” Fairchild said.
Footnotes.
The 8:30 p.m. kickoff will be carried by ESPNU (DirecTV 614, Comcast 404, Dish 141 and 148). Ex-Denver Bronco David Diaz-Infante is the analyst. Fort Collins sports bars Buffalo Wild Wings and CB & Potts will donate 10 percent of sales to the CSU scholarship fund.
