ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia star receiver A.J. Green was suspended by the NCAA for four games Wednesday for selling a bowl jersey for $1,000 to someone who qualifies as an agent.
Green sold his jersey from last season’s Independence Bowl. The junior, who sat out the season-opening 55-7 victory over Louisiana- Lafayette, must miss three more games before regaining his eligibility, according to the ruling from the NCAA. He will be eligible to return for an Oct. 2 game at Colorado.
• Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram has not returned to practice for Alabama, and while Nick Saban said the injured running back is unlikely to play against Penn State on Saturday, the coach isn’t necessarily counting his star out.
“If there is anybody in the world that can play without practicing, it’s probably Mark,” Saban said.
• Notre Dame fifth-year senior center Dan Wenger suffered his second concussion since mid-August and he is discussing with school officials whether he should return to football. A decision is expected in the next few days.
• A memorial service will be held Monday in Laramie for Wyoming linebacker Ruben Narcisse, who was killed Monday in an auto accident. Wyoming plays at Texas on Saturday. The team plans to wear helmet decals with Narcisse’s initials.
• Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez said safety Vladimir Emilien is transferring.
• Reggie Bush declined to go into any detail about what he knows about the status of his 2005 Heisman Trophy.
“At this point, it’s kind of out of my hands,” Bush said.
The former Southern Cal running back said he could not “confirm or deny” whether he has met with anyone from the Heisman Trophy Trust and deferred comment to the trust when asked about a report that said he could be stripped of the award by the end of the month.
Serbia eliminates Spaniards
ISTANBUL — Serbia knocked defending champ Spain out of the world basketball championship when Milos Teodosic made a long 3-pointer with 3.1 seconds left for a 92-89 quarterfinal victory.
Serbia advanced to face Turkey in a semifinal game Saturday. The hosts remained unbeaten with a 95-68 victory over Slovenia.
