Gov. Bill Ritter is expected to appoint Monica Marquez, a deputy attorney general, to the Supreme Court this afternoon, sources told The Denver Post.

Marquez, 41, is a Grand Junction native who has worked for both Democrat Ken Salazar and Republican John Suthers in the Attorney Generals’ Office. She would become the first Latina to sit on the state’s highest court.

Also in the running were Fourth District Judge David S. Prince and Colorado Court of Appeals Judge Robert M. Russel also are nominees.

Ritter will introduce the nominee at a press conference at 2:30 p.m. in his office.
