With chants of “MVP! MVP!” filling the air in the seventh inning, Carlos Gonzalez grounded into a double play to end his career-high 16-game hitting streak. He slammed his batting helmet in disgust after crossing the bag. But it’s hard to be too disgusted when you’re coming off this kind of streak: .516 (32-for-62), 10 multihit games, seven home runs and 21 RBIs.
Just say Giambino.
Jason Giambi didn’t homer in July or August, but his two-run shot off Travis Wood gave him two in September. With Jim Tracy resting Todd Helton in day games after night games, Giambi is facing his share of left-handers. Both home runs this month are off lefties after he hit his first three vs. right-handers.
Streaking.
The Rockies have won 10 straight games against first-place teams: 3-0 vs. Atlanta and San Diego and four in a row vs. the Reds.
