BP PLC, which has eight wind farms in the U.S., has started construction of the 250.8-megawatt Cedar Creek II project northeast of Greeley. The site is next to the 300-megawatt Cedar Creek I that opened in 2007.
The farm will be completed in June 2011 and will be able to power about 75,000 average American homes, BP Alternative Energy said Wednesday in a statement on its website.
The venture is 67 percent owned by Infigen Energy, the Australian wind-power producer formerly known as Babcock & Brown Wind Partners. The farm will sell its electricity to Xcel Energy.
