Sudden star:
Andrew Patrick was a Horizon backup running back. Now he’s a star. Patrick got his chance last week, when coach Frank Ybarra benched a starter for missing practice on Labor Day. Patrick responded by piling up 418 yards rushing and five touchdowns on 38 carries, helping the Hawks lift their record to 1-1 with a 42-33 victory over rival Northglenn. “I’m telling you, it was a track meet and he won,” Ybarra said. Patrick’s peformance included scoring runs of 23, 41, 9, 89 and 19 yards. The yardage total ranks seventh in state history, and Patrick’s 89-yard TD run set a school record. Will he start this week? Said Ybarra: “How do you sit him?”
