BOULDER, Colo.—Fire managers are confident they’ve stopped a wildfire burning in the foothills near Boulder from spreading. But there’s no word yet when people who lived directly in the fire’s path would be able to return to their homes or what remains of them.
The fire has destroyed at least 169 homes on a 10-square-mile area dotted with homes 5 miles west of Boulder. About half that perimeter now has fire lines built around it.
Managers hope to have the fire fully contained by Monday partly thanks to calmer winds.
The latest infrared flight over the burn area showed several areas of isolated heat but no large pockets of intense heat.
In another sign of the progress, eight of the 111 fire engines working on the fire are being allowed to return home.
