GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—Budget cuts likely will mean 27 layoffs for the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department this year—a 10 percent reduction in its work force.
Sheriff Stan Hilkey says he must cut more than $2 million from the department’s $24 million budget. He says the layoffs will mean reduced services and longer response times.
The Grand Junction Sentinel reports that acting county administrator Stefani Conley has asked departments to find cuts to make up for a projected $12 million loss in revenue next year.
