LOVELAND, Colo.—A wildfire that scorched 10 square miles in the foothills west of Boulder and destroyed at least 166 homes has been declared fully contained.
Fire managers say the blaze that started on Labor Day was contained Monday night. The fire drove thousands of people from their homes when the fire swept through canyons and up steep mountainsides. At least 2,000 people have been cleared to return.
Authorities are investigating whether the blaze was started by fire in a landowner’s pit that was put out days earlier but then reignited by the wind.
A second wildfire that started Sunday in the foothills west of Loveland, 30 miles north of Boulder, was about 20 percent contained Monday. The 925-acre blaze has destroyed at least two homes.
