The Colorado State men’s golf team retained the Colorado Cup at the Ballyneal Golf & Hunt Club near Holyoke on Monday, beating the Colorado Buffaloes 5 1/2-4 1/2.

Facing a 2-1 deficit after three four-ball matches, CSU claimed four individual matches and halved another to defeat CU.

“We had a great team effort today,” Rams coach Jamie Bermel said. “Even the guys who got beat played well.”

The Ryder Cup-style showdown placed three pairs of Rams against three pairs of Buffaloes in four-ball matches, each worth one point. In the afternoon the teams competed in seven individual matches, also worth one point each, for a total of 10 points available.

Both teams go to the Air Force Academy on Sunday to play in the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational at the Eisenhower Blue Golf Course. CSU has won the last two tournaments.

Skydiving team strikes gold.

Denver native Eric Wallace and the Air Force Impulse skydiving team won gold Monday in Chicago at the intermediate four-way formation skydiving competition at the U.S. Parachute Association national championships.

Air Force Impulse was one of 30 teams from across the country competing in the event. Wallace and his gold medal-winning team trained for the national championships at the Air Force Academy, attempting more than 500 jumps.
