Money may be tight, but when it comes to doing What Matters Most — the theme of the 2010 Children’s Hospital Gala — 1,450 Denver-area residents came through in grand style, raising $1.5 million at a dinner filled with fresh touches — and standup comedy by “Tonight Show” host Jay Leno. Meanwhile, as the fashion faithful know, Labor Day is when we should push our white clothing to the back of the closet until spring. Marking the occasion, members of the Marquee Club gathered at Cru Wine Bar for Last Chance to Wear White, an early September cocktail reception and showing of winter styles from the Larimer Square boutique Mariel. Jeremy Anderson and Carmel Koeltzow head the Marquee Club, which was founded in 2005 to attract newer, younger audiences for the Denver Center Theatre Company. In Arvada, pups and people were Raising the Woof! at a party that celebrated the opening of Foothills Animal Shelter’s $9.7 million facility at 580 McIntyre St. in Golden.
