A car thief was caught this morning in Jefferson County after he stole a black Cadillac in the 12000 block of Belleview Avenue.

Students at Kendallvue Elementary School, 13658 W. Marlowe Ave., were locked out for a time, but the school is back to normal

Mark Techmeyer of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said the owner of the car reported it stolen from the front of his home at 5:45 a.m.

Techmeyer said deputies who responded to the area saw the car “blow by them.” They did not pursue. A short time later they came across the car where it had crashed near South Youngfield Street and West Temple Drive.

Techmeyer said the thief was thrown from the car, but as deputies approached, he got up and ran.

Deputies used two dogs to search for the suspect around Weaver Hollow Park.

The dogs found the man hiding in a garage.
