A police standoff in Edgewater ended peacefully Tuesday morning when a man who was holed up in a house with two children surrendered to authorities.
David DeHerrera, 33, had two of his children, ages 2 and 4, inside a home at 2095 Marshall St., said Mark Techmeyer, a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.
The incident started at 7:09 a.m. when a child in the home called 911 to report an argument. He said his mother had been injured.
“He made threats to the kids that if they called the police, something bad would happen to them,” said Steve Davis, an Edgewater Police Department spokesman. “He told his wife that ‘If you call the cops, I’m going to shoot the cops and I’m going to do this and that.’ “
DeHerrera’s wife fled the home with two other children when Edgewater police arrived. She was taken to a nearby hospital for observation, Davis said.
DeHerrera surrendered to police at 9:20 a.m. and was taken to the Jefferson County jail, where he was being held for investigation of domestic assault and possible related charges.
The children were unharmed.
