NEW ORLEANS—Textron Marine & Land Systems joins MDT Armor Corp. in designing, marketing and making the Tiger, a light protected vehicle based on the Dodge RAM 5500 truck.

Alabama-based MDT showed off a prototype of the mine-protected vehicle last October. MDT spokesman Victor Allgeier says the Textron name “lends credibility to Aerotech”—MDT’s parent company, Aerotech Corp.

The partnership announced Tuesday is the second in two days for the New Orleans-based Textron Inc. subsidiary.

Alcoa Defense, a subsidiary of Denver-based Alcoa Inc., joined Textron and L-3 Communications Corp. of New York to compete for a contract for the Navy’s next-generation landing hovercraft, the ship-to-shore connector.

A partnership of The Boeing Co. and Marinette Marine Corp. also is competing for that $4 billion program.
