DENVER—The federal Veterans Affairs Department has chosen a Colorado-based joint venture to do $1.3 million in pre-construction work on a new veterans hospital planned for suburban Denver.
The VA said last week the work will be done by a partnership of Turner Construction Co. and Kiewit Corp. Turner is based in New York and Kiewit in Omaha, Neb., and their joint venture is based in the Denver suburb of Englewood.
The contract includes helping with designs, schedules, engineering and cost control.
The 200-bed hospital will cost $800 million and is expected to be fully open by May 2014.
The hospital will serve veterans in Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska and Wyoming. It replaces a 59-year-old facility in southeast Denver.
