While most burned areas of Boulder and Larimer counties have reopened after recent wildfires, several parched Colorado communities are trying to prevent the next big blaze.

This week, fire restrictions were announced for six Colorado counties — Boulder, Clear Creek, Douglas, Jefferson, Larimer and Park — as well as the cities of Arvada, Boulder, Castle Rock, Colorado Springs, Golden and Lakewood, according to a state database of fire restrictions.

Restrictions also apply to Golden Gate Canyon State Park, the Pawnee National Grasslands and all national forests in the state. The U.S. Bureau of Land Management has issued burn bans on its property in Boulder, El Paso, Fremont, Gilpin, Larimer, Park, and Teller counties.

The restrictions have no date to expire, but the average date for Denver’s first snow is Oct. 19.

Boulder Reservoir, the headquarters for federal fire-fighting efforts the past week, will reopen to the public Monday at 6 a.m., officials said today.

Wonderland Lake, which had been used by helicopters to collect water to dump on the blaze, had reopened as of Thursday.
