BOULDER, Colo.—A black cat whose nose and paws were burned in the wildfire west of Boulder still hasn’t been claimed by anyone.
He was among 115 dogs and cats rescued from the fire, which destroyed at least 166 homes and blackened about 10 square miles.
The Denver Post reports that he’s been nicknamed Sizzle by workers at the Alpenglow Veterinary Specialty Emergency Center in Boulder, where he’s being treated.
Sizzle is believed to be the only rescued animal who hasn’t been claimed.
He was found hiding under a rock on Sugarloaf Mountain. Besides his burn injuries, his whiskers, ears and fur were singed and he had inhaled smoke.
His lungs have cleared up with the help of oxygen and his bandaged paws are healing, although he’ll probably lose his claws.
