The Justice Department and Colorado have agreed that absentee ballots for the November election will be sent to military service members overseas by today.
Rich Coolidge of the secretary of state’s office said the state and the Justice Department signed the agreement Friday.
The agreement was reached after the department denied Colorado a waiver that would have exempted it from a federal requirement to mail ballots to military service members overseas 45 days before the election.
Secretary of State Bernie Buescher had said the Aug. 10 primary and deadlines for ballot initiatives would make it tough to meet the requirement.
