Keith Humerickhouse of Glenwood Springs Golf Club shot a 6-under-par 64 to grab a three-stroke lead after Friday’s first round of the Colorado Golf Association Mid-Amateur Championship.
Humerickhouse, a former professional who recently qualified for the U.S. Mid-Amateur, fired a 30 on the front nine at Fort Collins Country Club and made seven birdies on the day.
Defending champion Michael Harrington of Garden of the Gods Club, who played the final round of the USGA men’s state team championship in California on Thursday, shot a 67 to share second place with Danny Riskam of Meridian Golf Club.
The field will be cut to the low 40 players and ties after today’s second round. The tournament, which is limited to players 25 and older, will conclude Sunday.
Gilmore joins CC staff.
Terry Gilmore, a former coach at Cheyenne Mountain High School and two-time Midwest Lacrosse Association player of the year at Ohio State, has joined the Colorado College men’s program as an assistant coach, coach Guy Van Arsdale announced.
“We’re very fortunate to get someone with not only the coaching experience, but the life experience of Terry Gilmore,” Van Arsdale said. “Our student-athletes are going to benefit tremendously just by knowing him, let alone by being coached by him.”
Gilmore finished his career as OSU’s all-time leader in points and assists and was second in goals. In 2004, he co-founded Grandmasters Lacrosse, a traveling team that has competed in tournaments throughout the United States and Canada.
