LOS ANGELES — Sugar Shane Mosley and Sergio Mora fought to a 12-round draw in a junior middleweight bout Saturday night at the Staples Center.

The 39-year-old Mosley (46-6-1, 39 KOs) had hoped to earn another big-money fight after his one-sided loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in May, while Mora (22-1-2, 6 KOs) was trying to re-establish himself as an elite fighter.

The fight was difficult to score. Mosley was the aggressor from the beginning, but he had a difficult time landing clean punches because Mora is a standout defensive fighter.

Kyle Busch wins Truck race

LOUDON, N.H. — Kyle Busch raced to his fifth Trucks victory of the season and 80th overall NASCAR win, passing James Buescher on the final restart at New Hampshire Motorspeedway.

Busch and Kevin Harvick battled for the lead most of the day, but Buescher dipped below both drivers with 10 laps left to take the lead. He held it until Ron Hornaday hit the the wall, bringing out a caution.

Kurt Busch‘s bid for a second championship started in a shroud of controversy when NASCAR punished his team for getting caught with an extra set of tires.

He didn’t think being parked for 15 minutes of practice Saturday would hurt him in today’s Sprint Cup championship opener today.

Cory McClenathan remained atop the top-fuel field and secured his fifth No. 1 qualifying position of the season in the NHRA Nationals at zMax Dragway in Concord, N.C.

Cruz Pedregon (funny car), Jason Line (pro stock) and LE Tonglet (pro stock motorcycle) also led their divisions.

Steelers’ Leftwich released

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Pittsburgh Steelers released quarterback Byron Leftwich so they can add defensive lineman Steve McLendon for today’s game against the Tennessee Titans.

• The Jacksonville Jaguars promoted linebacker Alvin Bowen from the practice squad and waived linebacker Jacob Cutrera.

Davis Cup: Fish, Isner prevail

BOGOTA, Colombia — Americans Mardy Fish and John Isner defeated Colombia’s Robert Farah and Carlos Salamanca 6-4, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-3 in the Davis Cup to give the United States a 2-1 lead in their World Group playoff.

• Austria’s Tamira Paszek advanced to the Bell Challenge final in Quebec City, beating American Christina McHale 6-2, 6-2.

Paszek will face American Bethanie Mattek-Sands, who beat Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic 6-2, 6-1.
