Getting your player ready...
Chicago Cubs rookie Tyler Colvin’s season ended Sunday while scoring a run in the second inning of a 13-3 victory at Florida. But it could have been worse.
Colvin was standing on third base when he was struck by a sliver of Welington Castillo’s maple bat, puncturing his chest. Castillo doubled on the play and Colvin scored, but he left the game and was later hospitalized.
A Cubs spokesman said Colvin was in stable condition.
Jeff Baker said the team was concerned after some of the players went into the trainer’s room and saw how deep the wound was.
