COLORAD SPRINGS, Colo.—Authorities say two Colorado Springs high school students died after they were pulled unresponsive from a lake in a city park.

A witness tells The Gazette of Colorado Springs the teens, both boys, had been swimming at Prospect Lake in Memorial Park Monday afternoon.

Authorities haven’t released their names. Harrison School District 2 says both were students at Harrison High School.

Witnesses gave differing accounts of what happened. Some say both boys were swimming when they floundered. Some say one of the boys made it to shore and that a third boy perished while trying to rescue the one who remained in the lake.

Signs at the lake say swimming is prohibited.
