KATMANDU, Nepal — Nepal barred its former king from participating in religious, cultural and public functions Tuesday.
Troops deployed at the residence of former King Gyanendra Shah refused to allow him to leave Tuesday, as he prepared to attend a religious function in the capital.
According to a senior security officer, who asked not to be named, the decision was made on the pretext that the government could not provide security to the former monarch. Monarchists are protesting the decision.
