A 28-year-old teacher at a Greeley high school is facing charges he molested a 16-year-old girl in a classroom.
David Anthony Rangel is on paid leave from Jefferson High School, where he has taught language arts since last year.
He faces a felony charge of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust, according to court records.
He is being held in the Weld County jail without bond, awaiting a hearing on his release.
The alleged victim’s foster parent told Greeley police that “sometime at the beginning of the school year (Rangel) had consensual contact” with the teen in a classroom, Greeley police said in a statement today.
Public records show Rangel’s arrest record includes a charge of underage alcohol consumption in Pueblo County in 2000. The case was later dropped.
In May he pleaded guilty to reckless driving, after the Weld County District Attorney’s office dismissed a second charge of leaving the scene of an accident with injuries.
