BOULDER, Colo.—A Denver woman has come forward to claim a cat that was burned in a wildfire west of Boulder, roughly 30 miles from her home.

The Boulder Daily Camera reported Wednesday that Lori Church wondered whether the cat she knew as Morgan was the one depicted in news accounts as the fire’s last unclaimed pet.

Church and the Boulder veterinary clinic where the cat is being treated confirmed he was Morgan by an old scar.

Church says Morgan disappeared about four weeks ago. She has no idea how he got to Boulder. She says she never lived there.

Morgan suffered severe burns to his paws and nose, singed whiskers and an injury to his side. He’ll remain at Alpenglow veterinary clinic in Boulder until his paws heal better.
