DENVER—The Jefferson County School District and Colorado Springs School District 11 will share a $47.8 million grant to attract and support teachers in areas of high need.

About $32.7 million will go to 20 schools in Jefferson County and Colorado Springs schools will get about $15.1 million. The grants were among 62 that the Department of Education awarded nationwide Thursday as part of its Teacher Incentive Fund grant program.

Jefferson County plans to use the funds over five years to reward schools in pilot schools. Colorado Springs will use the grant over five years to implement a system that rewards teachers and principals based on student achievement at high-need schools.
