COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A Colorado Springs man who injured a police sergeant while driving drunk has been sentenced to four years in prison.

Twenty-seven-year-old Raymond Laracuente received the maximum sentence Wednesday after pleading guilty to vehicular assault for injuring an officer whose specialty is DUI enforcement. The officer, Sgt. Philip LeBeau, survived the March wreck but was catapulted 45 feet off his motorcycle by the impact.

Laracuente’s blood-alcohol content was measured at .112 after the crash, and he had a prior conviction for driving drunk.

About 12 motorcycle officers attended the hearing. The (Colorado Springs) Gazette reports that LeBeau’s children and wife wept as they described the impact the crash had on their family.
