OAKLAND, Calif. — Golden State coach Don Nelson is expected to part ways with the Warriors on Monday, an NBA source tells The Associated Press.
The source spoke on condition of anonymity Thursday night because the move likely won’t be announced until the start of the Warriors’ training camp next week.
Nelson has a record 1,335 wins, but he has never led a team to a title. He passed Lenny Wilkens’ record of 1,332 wins on April 7 in his second stint with the Warriors.
Suns, Gentry reach deal.
The Suns have extended coach Alvin Gentry’s contract through the 2012-13 season.
The move is a one-year extension because the Suns exercised an option three months ago on his previous deal.
Footnotes.
Lakers center Andrew Bynum is unlikely to play in the preseason while finishing rehabilitation from surgery on his right knee.
• NBA commissioner David Stern has advised Gilbert Arenas and the Wizards not to talk about the former all-star’s felony gun conviction, and the Wizards agreed.
• The Knicks have signed free-agent forward Shawne Williams.
• The Mavericks signed forward Steve Novak.
