Avis Budget Group Inc. offered Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group Inc. a $20 million termination fee after rival bidder Hertz Global Holdings Inc. said it would drop its pursuit if shareholders reject the combination.
Hertz’s statement Wednesday signaled the company is eliminating its matching rights, Avis said Wednesday in a statement.
Dollar Thrifty shareholders are scheduled to vote on Hertz’s proposed $1.46 billion takeover offer at a special meeting in Chicago today.
