DENVER—Colorado Education Commissioner Dwight Jones has been chosen as the new superintendent of the school district that includes Las Vegas.
KTNV-TV in Las Vegas reports that the Clark County School District voted 6-1 Wednesday to select Jones to head the district that is the nation’s fifth-largest. Jones has to accept the offer before he’s officially announced as the new superintendent.
Dallas Independent School District Superintendent Michael Hinojosa (ee-no-HO’-sah) was the other finalist for the job.
Jones has been Colorado’s education commissioner since 2007. He has been a teacher, principal, assistant superintendent and superintendent in districts around the country.
