A fire in Golden tonight destroyed one home and damaged a neighboring residence, but occupants of both houses escaped serious injuries, according to Golden Fire spokeswoman Karlyn Tilley.
The fire started in the home at 15804 West Second Avenue and was accompanied by explosions of oxygen bottles and a propane tank, Tilley said.
The first fire crews responded at 9:24 p.m. and 50 firefighters from at least three departments, and nine pieces of firefighting equipment, joined to put the blaze out, she said.
Tilley said fire officials did not know Wednesday night how the fire started at the home that was destroyed. She said a man lived upstairs in that home and his daughter and her husband lived in the basement.
Two were treated for minor injuries, Tilley said.
The fire also destroyed a pickup truck, a camping trailer and a detached garage, she said.
The neighboring home suffered moderate damage, but is repairable, Tilley said, adding that three people were displaced from that house as well.
