Shooting guard Arron Afflalo vowed to get into better condition over the summer now that so much more is expected of him on both ends of the court.

His hard work is already turning heads and paying dividends.

Afflalo said Thursday he hasn’t lost weight, but he appears slightly trimmer.

He’s noticed the benefits of smarter eating.

“I’m a little more cut-up this year because I stay so focused on my diet,” said Afflalo, who now eats red meat just once a week and mixes in chicken, turkey and seafood.

“Last year I just ate whatever. I really stayed really, really strict on the diet. I think I’ve leaned up a little bit, but I have more muscle mass. So I’m about the same weight, still about 215.”

Injury updates.

Al Harrington (foot) and Nene (calf) participated in half of the practice session Thursday. Harrington, who is dealing with plantar fasciitis, said it was just a precautionary move and he expects to be fine in the future.

Asked if he must have injuries, would he like to see them more spread out instead of decimating the frontcourt, coach George Karl quipped: “Yes, I’d like a little more variety.”
