Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony and coach George Karl met today to presumably talk about all things Melo, in what the team hopes is a step toward keeping the star in Denver.
It was just that — a step.
Karl didn’t say anything about the conversation after practice today, but Anthony did. And said the conversation focused on basketball, not where he’ll play next.
“I don’t have no new information,” Anthony said. “(The meeting) was cool, it was cool. It was my first time talking to him basically the whole summer, face-to-face. We reflected back on last season. He told me what he was looking for this season, talked about training camp. It was a good conversation to have.”
The Nuggets are still trying to convince Anthony to stick around. Karl hopes that a winning team and a familiar, comfortable atmosphere will help.
According to Anthony, Karl did not try to persuade him to stay.
“He didn’t try to work me over,” Anthony said. “He just wanted me to really focus in and told me that he is looking for my leadership skills and what I’ve been doing so far here in training camp.”
