FORT CARSON, Colo.—Fort Carson is formally saying goodbye to about 800 soldiers who are heading for Iraq, including its commander, Maj. Gen. David G. Perkins.
The post will hold a departure ceremony for Perkins and the 4th Infantry Division Headquarters unit on Thursday.
Perkins, supported by the headquarters unit, will oversee U.S. forces in northern Iraq.
About 3,800 other Fort Carson soldiers are in southern Iraq, and an equal number are in Afghanistan.
