A search continued Thursday night for the person identified as the getaway driver in a Longmont armed robbery that occurred about 9:30 a.m.

Theodore “Teddy” Lopez, 42, whom Longmont police identified as the robber, was taken into custody Thursday afternoon after he was tackled by officers at a King Soopers grocery in Golden.

Longmont police Cmdr. Tim Lewis said Thursday night that police have identified the driver of the getaway car and were still searching for him, but they were not releasing his name.

Police also were interviewing a 52-year-old man who was in the vehicle when officers attempted to apprehend the robbery suspects in Lakewood. Lewis said police were trying to determine whether the man had a role in the robbery.

Jacki Kelley of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said the suspects’ vehicle was spotted abandoned near West 14th Avenue and Pike Street in Jefferson County.

A law enforcement perimeter was set up, and several schools were locked down.

An employee at the King Soopers at 17171 S. Golden Road contacted police and said he believed two suspects were there.

While officers searched the store, Lopez allegedly bolted from a bathroom, ran out of the store and was tackled by officers.

Police believe Lopez robbed First American Cash Advance, 1240 Ken Pratt Blvd. in Longmont on Thursday morning.
