GLENDALE, Colo.—Former Colorado governors have given their possible replacements a public job interview.
Former Govs. Bill Owens and Dick Lamm quizzed Democrat John Hickenlooper, Republican candidate Dan Maes and American Constitution Party candidate Tom Tancredo on Monday on issues ranging from Colorado’s estimated $1 billion revenue shortfall next year to illegal immigrants.
Lamm, a Democrat, said he would hire Hickenlooper “because of his experience.”
Owens, a Republican who has stayed on the sidelines, said he will vote Republican. Asked if that means he’s voting for Maes, who was favored by the tea party, said, “No, there’s still (former GOP Sen.) Hank Brown.”
Brown has refused to run and Maes has refused to withdraw despite calls by some GOP leaders that he do so.
