An inmate at the federal Supermax prison in Florence attacked a correctional officer Wednesday, and the prison remained on lockdown Wednesday night.

Mark Collins, a spokesman for the penitentiary, said that about noon an inmate assaulted a guard, stabbing him three times with a “homemade weapon.”

Other staff at the prison were able to gain control of the situation, and no other injuries were reported.

The correctional officer was treated at a hospital and released and was at home recovering, Collins said.
