This week’s third annual STEMapalooza will celebrate the fun and importance of science, technology, engineering and math — popularly called STEM — said University of Colorado Denver organizers.

More than 10,000 students, educators, businesses and policymakers are expected today and Saturday at the Colorado Convention Center.

The free event from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday will feature exhibitors from around the state.

Students, parents and teachers can plunge into hands-on activities such as robotics and rocketry and learn about STEM-related careers.

For businesses, it’s a way to support STEM education and prepare a workforce for a global high-tech society.

Centennial-based United Launch Alliance is one of STEMapalooza’s sponsors.

“In 10 years, approximately half of the rocket scientists at ULA will be retiring, and we need to continuously find ways to invigorate interest in STEM with today’s kids,” ULA president Michael Gass said.
