PIERRE, S.D.—The South Dakota attorney general’s office plans to get involved in a lawsuit over a wildlife habitat project in Colorado.

Marty Jackley announced Friday that the state will file a motion to intervene in the case over the Norbeck Wildlife and Timber Management Project within days.

The project scheduled for this fall and winter would improve the habitat on forest land within the Norbeck Wildlife Preserve. Jackley says environmentalists filed a federal lawsuit in September over the project.

Jackley says the outcome of the lawsuit could potentially limit South Dakota’s ability to fight tree-killing pine beetles in Custer State Park.
