BOULDER, Colo.—The Boulder County sheriff’s office is investigating the theft of equipment from one of the fire departments that fought a 6,200-acre wildfire.
The Gold Hill Fire Department says it’s missing several pieces of equipment and gear that disappeared during the fire that destroyed 169 homes and burned nearly 10 square miles in the foothills west of Boulder.
The Daily Camera reports the items include two sets of bunker gear, fire shelters, shirts, two sets of boots and three pairs of firefighting goggles. Gold Hill Assistant Fire Chief Donald Maloney says the fire station’s doors were left open for several hours when the blaze first broke out Sept. 6.
Maloney says at first, people thought volunteers might have borrowed the equipment.
