Community College of Denver professor Yvonne Frye was memorialized Monday, while her alleged killer, 20-year-old Jose Nevarez-Coronado, was charged with drunken driving and vehicular homicide.

The Denver District Attorney’s Office on Monday said Nevarez- Coronado was driving “at a high rate of speed” about 2 a.m. Wednesday when he collided with Frye’s vehicle at East 14th Avenue and Colorado Boulevard. Nevarez-Coronado remains in the Denver Detention Center on $100,000 bail.

Frye, 62, died at the scene. A memorial service for her was held Monday at St. Cajetan Catholic Church.

She had worked 39 years at Community College of Denver.

A viewing will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday in Ivy Chapel at Fairmont Cemetery, 430 S. Quebec St.. The funeral is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Living Water Church, 12963 E. Sixth Place in Aurora. Joey Bunch, The Denver Post
