VAIL — The search for a missing hiker in the Holy Cross Wilderness area continued Monday.
James Nelson, 31, of Chicago was reported missing on Friday by his fiancee, said Shannon Cordingly, an Eagle County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman. On Oct. 3, Nelson, an experienced backcountry hiker, took off alone on a five-day, 25-mile hike of Mount of the Holy Cross in Eagle County.
About three dozen searchers set out Monday at sunrise but had not found him by nightfall.
