If you drive in Aurora, get ready to see more police officers on the road.
The Aurora Police Department was awarded a $50,000 grant from the Colorado Department of Transportation to address speeding problems.
Starting this week, the grant will put more officers on the roads who will be issuing tickets to speeders along Interstate 225 and Interstate 70. The department says highways tend to be the most dangerous roads.
“One of the things that drew our attention is the highways. We have a disproportionate number of injury accidents here,” said Det. Robert Friel. “Sometimes speeds get very high and put all motorists at risk.”
Officers were mostly issuing warnings Monday. But the grace period won’t last long. They’ll begin issuing tickets to speeders today.
