A 25-year-old Massachusetts man was pulled over driving nearly 90 mph east of Laramie, Wyo., Monday, but authorties said today he has a bigger problem than a speeding ticket: 35 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of his rental car.
Wayne Souza of Fall River, Mass., was pulled over on Interstate 80 between Laramie and Cheyenne and told a trooper he was driving to Sacramento, Calif., from Kansas City. Mo.
The trooper became suspicious when Souza could not explain why his rental agreement stated the car had been picked up in Sacramento Saturday and was due to be returned there on Monday.
A drug-sniffing dog found the vacuum-sealed bags of pot and packets of coffee, presumably to mask the smell, according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
Souza remains in the Albany County jail facing felony drug possession and trafficking charges.
