The family of Tim Albo says it has larger concerns than the identity of a 21-year-old man accused in the Oct. 3 hit-and-run in the Ballpark neighborhood.
Albo, 26, and Heather Kornman, 27, continue to recover from serious injuries they suffered when they were run down crossing 20th and Chestnut streets northwest of Coors Field about 2 a.m.
The driver of a Chrysler PT Cruiser sped away.
Wednesday afternoon, police arrested Brandon Mondragon of Westminster at his job in Littleton after two people who were passengers in his car gave statements to police.
“My family has it in their heart to forgive,” said Tim’s father, Richard Albo.
Tim’s brother, Rodney Albo, said the family was indifferent about Mondragon but grateful to police for pursuing the case and making an arrest.
Detective Tito Voitel said the witnesses told police they and Mondragon had been drinking in nearby bars before the crash.
The following afternoon, Mondragon’s car, with a smashed front windshield and other damage, allegedly from the collision, was found abandoned in Arvada.
Before that, police had little to go on, Voitel said.
“Getting the car was a huge benefit to us,” he said.
Mondragon would not speak to police and referred them to his lawyer. The arrest was the result of the passengers’ cooperation, Voitel said.
