GREELEY — A 23-year-old man has been cited by Greeley police after firing a BB gun Wednesday that struck a Franklin Middle School student while he was outside on the playground.
The shooting prompted a brief lockdown while authorities investigated.
The seventh-grade boy was treated by the school nurse, and his mother was called to the school.
Roger Fiedler, Greeley-Evans School District 6 director of communications, said there were no other students on the playground at the time.
John Gates, director of security and safety for the district, said a school resource officer interviewed residents of an apartment complex to the north of the school and found the gun and the man.
“We’re not sure if someone was aiming at the boy or if it was just a random shot that went over the fence,” Fiedler said.
