Several businesses, including a grocery store, were evacuated this morning in Jefferson County because of a gas line rupture.

No one was injured in the incident, said Jim Hofstra, fire marshal with Littleton Fire Rescue.

The incident happened at about 10:25 a.m. in the 7300 block of West Chatfield Avenue.

A trenching crew working on a new building site accidentally ruptured a two-inch gas line.

Workers and customers in a strip mall, with about 20 businesses, were evacuated as a precautionary measure, Hofstra said.

The pipe was capped and people were allowed to return at about 10:50 a.m., Hofstra said.
