John Allen was sentenced Friday to serve 25 years in prison for whipping his then-15-year- old son with an extension cord and forcing him to drink water spiked with bleach and soap.
A Denver jury convicted Allen, 36, in August of child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury.
The abuse happened multiple times and became worse during December 2008.
According to a news release, Denver Deputy District Attorney Simone Montoya asked the court to give Allen significant prison time because of the severity of the abuse, and the scars that resulted.
The abused son, now 17, testified during the sentencing hearing and said he still has nightmares about the abuse, according to the news release.
