A Denver man faces charges of first-degree assault and felony menacing in connection with a Sept. 19 incident in which a man was shot and a woman was threatened at Confluence Park.

According to the arrest affidavit, 19-year-old Joseph Breese waved a gun and yelled at the woman from inside a white Chevrolet Suburban. The woman told police the suspect exited the vehicle just after 11 p.m. and fired at a group of people watching a juggling performance, wounding one man. She told police that the shooter then drove away.

According to the affidavit, an employee at a nearby store wrote down the vehicle’s license plate number, which police traced to Breese. The woman told police she didn’t know whether the suspect was firing specifically at the male victim.

The male victim survived but has not cooperated with the investigation. Breese will appear in court for a preliminary hearing Monday.
